James Wright heirs sell land 1816
This indenture made this 5th day of June in the year of our lord one thousand and eight hundred
and sixteen between Lyttleton Wynn of the county of Sussex & Sarah Wynn his wife, John C.
Cahoon and Ann Cahoon his wife, Edward Wright executor to the last will and testament of
Stephen Wright deceased of the county of Nansemond all of the Common Wealth of Virginia and
his heirs at law of James Wright deceased of the one part and Thomas Pool junior of the county
of Pasquotank and state of North Carolina of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration
of the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars to them the said Lyttleton Wynn & Sarah his wife,
John C. Cahoon & Ann his wife & Edward Wright executor as foresaid in hand paid or otherwise
secured to be paid by the said Thomas Pool at or before the sealing and delivery of there presents
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged they the said Lyttleton Wynn and Sarah his wife,
John C. Cahoon & Ann his wife and Edward Wright exec. As aforesaid hath granted bargained
and sold and by there presents doth absolutely grant bargain and sell convey and confirm unto
the said Thomas Pool his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land plantation and
premises situated lying and being in the county of Pasquotank aforesaid adjoining the lands of
James & Samuel Johnston, Solomon Pool senior, Jos. & Benjamin Pritchard, Robert Cartwright
and others.
Beginning at the corner of the lands of Solomon Pool senior, John Pool junior and Joseph Pritchard
thence running along Joseph and Benjamin Pritchard’s line S62E25 ¼ chains to Trueblood’s corner
along his line N46E17 ½ chains thence along (blank) line N84E 32 ¾ chains to a Holley Cartwright’s
line thence along said line N49W51 ½ chains to a poplar on James C. Johnston’s line thence along
said Johnston’s and Solomon Pool’s S38W48 chains to the first station containing one hundred
and fifty acres agreeable to a survey on record in the Registers office of Pasquotank County
aforesaid be the same more or less.
To have and to hold the aforesaid land & premises with all and singular its assurances and priviledges
unto the said Thomas Pool his heirs execs admins and assigns to him and them only proper use
benefit and behoof presents. And furthermore they the said Lyttleton Wynn and Sarah his wife,
John C. Cahoon and Ann his wife and Edward Wright a executor to the last will and testament of
Stephen Wright deceased doth for themselves their heirs executors and administrators covenant
and agree to and with the said Thomas Pool his heirs executors administrators and assigns to
warrant and defend the title of the said lands and premises from the lawful claims or demands of all
persons whatsoever forever.
In witness whereof they the said Lyttleton Wynn and Sarah his wife, John C. Cahoon and Ann his
wife and Edward Wright executor to the last will and testament of Stephen Wright deceased have to
these presents set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Virginia to wit
Lyttleton Wynn and Sarah Wynn his wife this day personally appeared before me Griffin Stith one
of the judges of the General Court of Virginia and severally acknowledges this indenture to be their
act and deed and severally declare their willingness that the same should be bounded as such in
manner and form as directed by the laws of the state of North Carolina. The said Sarah Wynn wife
of the said Lyttleton Wynn separate and apart from the said Lyttleton Wynn her husband also
aknowledged this indenture to be her act and deed and that she have signed sealed and delivered
the same freely and volunteerly and without the persuasion or treats of the said Lyttleton Wynn and
willingly convented that this indenture should be recorded as such in manner and form as directed
by the laws of the state of North Carolina.
In testimony whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal affixed my seal this 19th day of
September 1816 and in this 41st year of the Commonwealth.
