To all to whome these presents shall come greeting Know ye that I JOHN MERRIL of
the County of Pasquotank & province of North Carolina for & in consideration of the sum
of Twenty pounds Prol. Money to me in hand paid before the insealing and delivery hereof
well & truly paid by JOHN WESSTON of the County & province afsd. The recept where of I
do hearby acknowledge & my self therewith fully satisfied contented & paid & there of &
every part there of do Exonourate a quit & discharge the said JOHN WESTON his heirs
Ex. Adm. For ever by thess presents have given granted bargined sold alined conprayed &
confairmed & by these presents do fully freely & absolutely give grant bargin sell alien
convay & confairm unto the said JOHN WESSTON his heirs & assigns for ever part of a
tract of land granted by Patten to the afsd. JOHN MERRIL relation being there unto had Doth
more fully appear situate on the north east side Pasquotank River viz beginning at a gum on
ROBERT HARRISONS line thence along a line of markt trees to the afsd. Patten line
thence down sd. Patten line and round the sd. Patten line to the first station for Fifty acres
of land be the same more or less. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the sd. Granted bargained
Primises with all the appartainances priviledges and advantages to the sme belonging or in
anywise appertaining to him the sd. JOHN WESSTON his heirs & assigns forever to his
& there own properuse conefort & behoof forever & the sd JOHN WESSTON his heirs &
assigns shall & may from time to time and at all times for ever by force & virtue of these
presents Lawfully Peaceably & quietly have hold use occupy possess & in Joy the
dismissed & bargined premises with all The appertainces free and Clear & Clearely
aquited Exonourated of and from all maner of former & other gifts grants bargins sailes
leaces morgages wills intails Joynts doworys judgments Executions and Extents
furthermore I the sd JOHN MERRIL for my self my heirs Ex. & adm. Do Covenant and
ingage the above dismissed premises to him the said JOHN WESTON his heirs and
assigns against the lawfull name of any of my heirs and here after to warrant Maintain the
same from any person or persons Whatsoever in Witness hereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal this 5th day of October 1767

Deed of Sale of land from JOHN MERRELL to JOHN WESTON was duely proved in open
Court by the oath of JOHN SQUIRES a subscribing evidence there to in due form of law
ordered to be Registered Test Fred. Blount Clk.
These May Certify that the above deed was registred August the 5th day 1770 by Thomas
Taylor publick Register.
