Know all men by theses presents that I John Lane of the county of Pasquotank and state of North 
Carolina executor of the last will and testament of William E. Wright late of the county and state 
aforesaid deceased. Have constituted unto and appointed and by these presents do constitute 
make and appoint my truly and loving friend Stephen Wright of Nansemond county in the state 
of Virginia my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name and stand to use to ask dom and 
for very reasons and receive all such sum and sums of matter which are or shall be due on a 
certain bond from the estate of William Roberts dec’d of the county of Nansemond aforesaid unto 
the estate of the said William E. Wright dec’d be assigned this date the twenty first day of October 
anno domini one thousand seven hundred and ninty two. Conditioned for the request of two hundred 
and sixty seven pounds ten shillings Virginia currency. Giving and granting unto my said attorney 
these presents full and whole power strength and authority in and about the premises to have use 
and take all lawful ways and means in my name for the recovery thereof and upon receipt of any 
such debts dues or sums of money aforesaid. Acquittances or other sufficient discharges for me 
and in my name to make seal and deliver and generally all and every other act or acts thing and 
things device or devices in the law whatsoever steadfast and ? to be done in and about the promises
for me as executor aforesaid and in my name to do execute and perform as fully largely and ampuly 
to all intent and purposes as I myself might or could do. If I were reasonally present or as if the
matter required more special authority than is herein given and attorneys one or more render him for 
the purpose aforesaid to make and constitute and again at pleasure to revoke. Ratifying allowing and 
holding for from and affectual all and whatsoever my said attorney shall lawfully do in and about the 
promises by virtue hereof.
In witnesseth whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of June in the twenty third 
year of American Independence anno domini one thousand seven hundred and ninty nine.
