Mrs Bessie M Smith

Mrs Bessie Morris Smith, 76, of 107 E Broad St died Friday night at 7:30
o'clock in Albemarle Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Tyrrell County and lived in Elizabeth City for the past
20 years. She was the daughter of the late Charlie H and Caroline Owens
Morris and widow of Pardon Henry Jones. She was a forner saleslady for the
Old Fowler Co., and was a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs D C Perry of Elizabeth City and Mrs
Rufus Sawyer of Norfolk, two sisters, Mrs Johnny Walker of Hopewell, Va and
Mrs Aubrey Umphlett of Hertford; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm in the 
Twiford Memorial Chapel by Dr Robert W Kicklighter, pastor of Blackwell 
Memorial Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr 
and Mrs D C Perry, 213 Pritchard St.
