Joseph Alexander Ross Sr., age 92, of 3907 Caratoke Highway, Barco, N.C., 
died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007 at Albemarle Hospital. 
Mr. Ross, a native of Burke County, N.C., was the son of the late Emma 
Hester Ross and the husband of Audrey White Ross. 
He grew up in the Baptist Children's Home in Thomasville, N.C., attended 
Gardner Webb College in Boiling Springs and graduated from Wake Forest 
University in 1937. He was a retired sales manager for a masonry 
manufacturing company and a former school teacher and principal at Poplar 
Branch High School. 
He was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, a veteran of World War II, 
a member of Hillendale Baptist Church and the church choir, the Beltsville, 
Md. Lions Club, the Elk's Club, Moose Club, American Legion, Masonic Lodge,
Shriners, Scottish Rites and York Rite Bodies. He was an avid hunter and 
sportsman. 
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Ross Chance and 
husband, Joel, of Macon, Ga.; two sons, Carl Alexander Ross and wife, 
Janet, of Poplar Branch, N.C., and J. Alex Ross, Jr. and wife, Kim, of 
Duck, N.C., a sister, Catherine Alford of Asheville, N.C.; five 
grandchildren, Michael Ross, Pam Ross Loakso, Andrea Ross, Chad Ferrell, 
and Allison Ferrell; and one great-grandchild, Haley Ann Loakso. 
A graveside funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, with 
the Rev. Charles Stevens and the Rev. Charles Wellons officiating at the 
White family cemetery in Aydlett, N.C. Full military honors will be 
rendered by the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060. The family will 
receive friends Monday from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and 
at other times at 433 Poplar Branch Road, Poplar Branch, N.C., Memorial 
donations may be made to Baptist Children's Homes of NC, P.O. Box 338, 
Thomasville, NC 27360. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church St., 
Elizabeth City, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.
