Will of John Stafford







In the name of God, Amen. I, John Stafford, of the County of Pasquotank and State of North Carolina being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and memory thanks be unto God for the same, do this Fifteenth day of December One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twelve make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say: First, I give unto my beloved wife, Experience, all the property which she brought with her when I married her, to her and her heirs forever. Likewise, four head of sheep, my riding horse and saddle, and one years provisions out of the stock which may be on hand. Item: I give to my grandsons, John Thompson, William Dossey Pritchard, and William Biddle all my land and swamp to be equally divided between them Item: I give the remaining part of my property to my three daughters, Amy Thompson, Peggy Pritchard, and Polly Biddle to be equally divided between them after paying my just debts. And, I do further nominate make and appoint my friend, David Pritchard, Jr., my whole and sole Executor to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written John Stafford Signed, sealed and delivered in the presents of Malichi Madren Thomas Madren Hannah Davis ------------------------------------------------- State of North Carolina Pasquotank County March Term, 1813 The last will and testament of John Stafford, deceased, was exhibited and proven in open court by the oath of Malachi Madren, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and David Pritchard, Jun., the Executor therein named appeared and qualified agreeable to law.
