Will of Thomas Sawyer







The twenty second day of Eight - month Commonly called October in the year 1750. Be it Remembered that I Thomas Sawyer of the County of Pasquotank and Province of North Carolina Being Sick and Weak of Body But of Sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be given to god therefore Considering the mortality of this Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men Once to Die, do make and ordain this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. Respecting Those few Termperals that it hath pleased the Lord to premit on to have I give Demise and Dispose of the Same in manner following- I Will that all those Just Debts and Contracts be well and Truly Contented and paid in Some Conunant time after my Deseas by my Exectrix and Ececutor hereafter Named----- No. 1 ly I give and Bequeath my Soul unto hands of almighty god that gave it and my Body to the Earth to be Buried in a Desent Christian form at the Descresion of my Exectrix and Excutor No. 2 ly I give to my Loving Wife Elisabeth Sawyer the one halfe of my Plantasion and land there unto belonging Dureing her Widowhood without any molestasion or Disturbuances # 3 ly I give and bequeath to my Loving Daughter Dolly Smithson the other half of my Plantasion and Land there unto belonging to her and her heirs forever and at her mothers Deseas or marrage the other halfe to fall to Dorethy Smithson and her heirs forever I leave for my Daughter Dolly Smithson to pay to my Three younger Daughters Jemima Miriam and Mary Sawyer Twenty five Pounds Virgina Currancey to Each of them in Lue of their having any part of the Land. # 4 ly I give and bequeath to my Loving Daughter Jemima Sawyer the first Coalt that is Raised of my mairs # 5 ly I give to my Daughter Miriam Sawyer the Next coalt this is Raised of my mairs # 6 ly I give to my Daughter Mary Sawyer the third Coalt that is raised of my mairs # 7 ly I give and bequeath to my Daughter Dolly Smithson two Heifers that I had of James Ward # 8 ly I Give o my Daughter Jemima Sayer two three year old Heifers one feather bed and furneture two puter Dishes two plates one Bason one Dowzen of Spoons # 9 ly I give and bequeath to my Daughter Miriam Sayer one feather Bed and furneture two puter Dishes two plates halfe a Dowzen of Spoons a two year old Heifer one puter Bason #10 ly I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Sawyer one feather Bed and furneture two puter Dishes two lates one Bason halfe a dowzon of Spoons #11 ly I give and bequeath to my Son in Law John Smithson all my wareing Cloaths #12 ly I Leave the rest of my Estate to my Loving Wife Elizabeth Sawyer dureing her Widowhood or natural Life and after wards to be Equally Divided amongest my four Daughters Dolley Jemima Miriam and Mary Sawyer Lastly I Nominate and appoint my Loving wife Elisabeth Sayer and my Son in Law John Smithson my hole and Sole Exctix and Ector of this my Last Will and Testament Revolking all other Wills and Testaments heretofore in any wise made Ratifying this and no other to be my Last Will and testament in Witness where I have Set my Hand and Seal Signed Selaed Pronounced and D______ed by the Said Thomas Sawyer as his Last Will and Testament in the presents of us Henry HU Nichels Jurat Thomas + Sawyer his William WH Harris Jurat mark Hez Cartwright North Carolina } January County Court Anno Dom 1750 Pasquotank County } Present His Majestis Justices I h_ _ _ may Certify that Henry Nickels and Willaim Harris b__ of the End, _ _ _ _ to the within Will came forward and proved this Will of Thomas Sawyer Deceased in due form of Law, then appeared Elizabeth Sayer and John Smithson Execs and was duly Qualifyed ordered that the Honorable Nathanial Rice Esq. ______ to his life have Notice that Letters may open ___ dated at the Clerks office the 10th day of January 1750 Test John Lay_ _ _ _
