Samuel & Jerry Waters
I am researching my genealogy and find that I have immediate family ties
in Pasquotank County dating back to (at least) the 1800s. Samuel and
Jerry Waters (father and son), my great-grandfather and grandfather were
noted, in one of the family tree comments I discovered, as co-owners of
"Waters Bottling Company", a soda water firm in Elizabeth City from the
late 1800s through approximately 1930. Jeremiah S. Waters (Jerry) was
said in one instance to have died "sometime between 1903 and 1907".
However, since he fathered 6 children between 1908 and 1920 (the youngest
of whom was my mother), I know that statement is inaccurate. I know very
little else, however, and know of no living relatives to contact for
information.
I've exhausted every means I know of trying to research my grandfather,
the Waters Bottling Company, his 1903 marriage to Lydia Banks of
Pasquotank County (her maiden name, children of that marriage, how that
marriage ended, etc.), why he is reported to have died after that, and why
I can't find marriage records to Laura V. White (my maternal grandmother,
ALSO of Pasquotank County). I've simply hit a brick wall and don't know
where to turn. Do you have any archival information on any of these
matters, or can you point me in the right direction to get some answers?
I recently travelled from my home in southwest Missouri and spent two
weeks at Lenoir Community College Genealogy Department, the registrar of
deeds offices, and several area libraries---but nowhere have I been able
to solve the mystery of my grandfather's life between 1903 - 1907, the
history of and his partnership in Waters Bottling Co. in Elizabeth City,
and what happened immediately following his 1903 marriage to Lydia Banks.
If you can help me in any way, I'd really appreciate it.
