To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that I JOHN MERRELL of
Pasquotank County & Province of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of
nine pounds Procl. Money to me in hand paid before the ensealing here of well and truly
paid by MOSES CARTWRIGHT of the county and province afrsaid the receipt whereof I
do hereby and myself therewith and every part there in Exonerate acquit and discharge
the said MOSES CARTWRIGHT his heirs Exer. Admis. Forever by these ??? have given
granted bargained sold aliened confirmed and conveyed & by these presents do fully and
absolutely give grant bargain sell alien convey & confirm unto him the said MOSES
CARTWRIGHT his heirs and assigns forever part of a tract of land granted by patent to me
the said JOHN MERRELL bearing date the 19th day of June 1760 situate in the county of
Pasquotank and on the NE side of River on N.River pocoson viz beginning at a pine division
of TABITHA DAVIS & JACOB CINLIN?? Along the said TABITHA DAVIS line to the old Island
path to a maple thence along a line of mark trees to the bounds of the patent & thence up
the bounds opposite to the first station containing by estimation fifty acres of land be the
same more or less To have and to hold the said demised and bargained ??? with all the
appurtenances privileges & advantages to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining
him the said MOSES CARTWRIGHT his heirs and assigns forever to his & their own proper
benefit forever furthermore I the said JOHN MERRILL for myself my heirs Exers Admrs. Do
convenant the lawful claim of any of my heirs hereafter to warrant maintain and defend the
same from any person or persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal this 9th day of December 1762
